Happy Tuesday/ Merry Christmas Eve my loves!!
Can you believe tomorrow is Christmas!?! Shesh, already. I hope everyone has VERY safe and happy holidays with your loved ones. I got a chance to chitchat with someone within the P.R industry. Ari is the president of Double Coverage PR Group, which was created in 2010. This P.R Group represents athletes within the NFL, MLB, and MLS. I want you all to sit back, relax, eat lots of Christmas cookies, drink tons of milk and wine (lol), wait on Santa, and see where Ari likes to shop!
CC: What does style/fashion mean to you?
Ari: “I’ve always thought the way you present yourself is the first impression people get when they see you. Style/fashion to me is like a walking billboard: “hi this is my personality, who I am, etc.” For me it’s a way to express myself, it's an art form.”
CC: How would you describe your personal style?
Ari: “I would say my style is preppy jetsetter meets tomboy chic. It’s a constant tug back and forth between high end designers that I love and tomboy chic comfort when I’m not working.”
CC: Top 5 clothing brands or designers?
1. Alexander Wang
2. Philip Lim
4. Tom Ford
CC: Top 5 clothing stores?
5. BCBG Max Azria
CC: Top 5 cities to shop?
3. New York City
4. Rio de Janeiro
CC: What is your favorite/ “go to” outfit when traveling in the airport while staying comfy yet cute?
Ari: “I love BCBG cardigans so it's usually one of their cardigans, Rag& Bone jeans or leggings and Isabel Marant wedge sneakers and a beanie”.
CC: What challenges do you face as a female being in the sports industry, which is pretty much dominated…by men?Ari: “My biggest challenge is earning respect. When I first started out, it was definitely just making sure men didn’t try to make a move on me, but now that I’m more established and they see my work ethic, they respect it and don’t try me anymore. Respect from agents and other industry men is always a battle though, I’m a female so they never think I really know the game the way they do. Usually after a meeting or two, they realize I study the game and stats just as they do.”
Ari: "Right now Double Coverage is expanding. We started out as only representing athletes but now we have signed our first sports lifestyle brand and are looking to collaborate with some other brands as well. We have also taken on a new client that is a high-end luxury boutique in Chicago by the name of Soñador, which will be opening in spring 2014."
CC: Any advice for someone trying to break into the P.R field?
Ari: "My best advice is to stay dedicated even when things are slow. The PR industry is like a rollercoaster, you have to remember its not a sprint, its like a bunch of mini marathons. There will be plenty bad days or slow periods but you just have to stick with it. The PR world is different than a lot of jobs, it’s not just your career but it’s a lifestyle, you have to realize that before getting into it. I always tell college kids trying to break into the field, when I go out to a club with my friends I cant get all drunk like them, because my job is also my lifestyle. The last thing a client ever wants to see is a picture of their publicist sloppy drunk somewhere."
CC: Lastly, The Prevailing Effect is someone who has prevailed and overcame many obstacles in life to get where they are today. Do you consider yourself a “Prevailing Effect”?
Ari: "I definitely do. I started my company when I was graduating college. I had one client and the only money I had in a bank account for Double Coverage was my graduation money LOL. Since then, we’ve lost clients but also gained Rookies of the Year and league Champions. There have been plenty of trying times but those obstacles have all been necessary in the process."
